Okay, I know the title of this post should be improvemed, so give me your suggestion(s) after reading this post. People who know me would probably think I wouldn’t use a title like this. Anyway, here it goes…. Get something to munch while reading it, because it’s quite exciting. For me, at least.
This happened last Friday, April 20th, 2007.
I got my course cards (grades) for the term, and was extremely surprised that I passed all of them! I wasn’t expecting to get those grades, especially in two of my subjects (History of Arts and Design 1 & Professional Ethics 1). I wasn’t expecting the grade I got in the first mentioned subject, becuase our professor makes us draw a lot of historic architectural structures, such as the Sphinx, Parthenon, Ziggurat, Colosseum, just to name a few. They were very challenging, and I wasn’t able to finish a few, and that’s why I got so shocked when I saw my grade. It’s not as high as you’re thinking, but it’s pretty high for me! The grade I got was a 3.0. My final exam probably pulled it up, because I got a 99! I forgot what a Pendentive is, so I wasn’t able to answer the question my professor gave. His question was "… How is a Pendentive formed?". And even if I knew what a pendentive was, I wouldn’t probably know how it’s formed. I guess, it’s formed by making/putting 2 arches, kinda forming an L shape, and then putting a dome on top, and fill it with cement, ’til the corner of the 2 arches are covered, and that’s it! But then again, that’s just a guess.
Anyway, I got a 99 for that final exam, which is not bad. I didn’t even study it (I usually don’t study anything on my finals, unless I really don’t know what it’s all about, then I study it). That was the first course card that I got.
The next course card that I got was for my Philippine Design History. I just got a 2.0 in that subject. I’m not really surprised, because I’m not as active in that subject, and my solo presentation needed to be improved a lot. I read the report at the last minute/hours before the actual presentation. Also, I usually fall asleep when others are reporting, and I think my professor saw me a few times. My midterm grade was only around 1 or 1.5. I’m not sure, but in any case, I’m generally happy that I passed. It (the course card for this subject) was released on the 16th of April, but I didn’t know. I thought that ALL course cards will be due on the 20th, so I had to look for it. It wasn’t that difficult, since the course cards for that subject was already separated. I saw my surname on the first flip. Talk about luck!
I was thinking of getting this course card after getting another one (I was at the 4th floor, and the other one will be given at the 1st floor, so go figure), but my prof. was so late, and while waiting for him, I saw a friend who is also my classmate in the other subject, and he suggested to get the other course card first, and so we did. The next course card that I got was for my Principles of Design subject. I would’ve probably gotten a higher grade, if I only submitted on time. I usually submit my projects/exercisees late. The professor gave me a 2.0 for it. Still, not bad (for me).
After that, I returned to the 4th floor to get my other course card. This course card is for my Human Factors in Design subject. I still had to wait for around 20 minutes or so, since my prof. wasn’t there yet. Good thing I saw one of my female friends (but she wants to be a "skater dude", though!) and we talked for a bit, and then I decided to go inside the Multimedia Lab, because it was BLAZING hot outside (without her, but hey, I asked her to go with me!). I just wouldn’t survive in a non-airconditioned environment! She just called me when she saw our professor. This female friend was my partner in our final project: A Designer’s studio. I conceptualized, and researched, etc, and she drew it. I got a 2.5, and she got a 3.0 in it. Still, a bad grade for me.
After getting our grades, we just bummed around, because our next course cards will be distributed at 4-6. (4-5pm for me, 5-6 for her’s, not sure). While bumming around, we decided to go to Cerealicious. It was EXTREMELY HOT while walking on the way there, so I was EXPECTING to be more relaxed once we reach there. Unfortunately, I think their airconditioners were not working, because it was VERY VERY HOT AND HUMID there. It also smelled like a refrigerator that’s been idle for a year or so. In other words, it stinks inside that place. I ordered a Mango something smoothie, but I was totally dismayed when I tasted it. I still have one more gripe, which is HYGIENE/CLEANLINESS! But,anyway, I don’t want to focus on this, because it would totally render the title of this post useless.
After bumming around with my friend, we returned to school, and I showed her some landmarks around the area, since she’s not that familiar around our campus. We left that dreadful place at around 15:30, and arrived in school 15 minutes after. We went our separate ways when we reached school, and I immediately went to the room where my next course card will be distributed. That subject is Design Professions and Code of Ethics 1. I saw the professor I had for the 2nd half of that subject, and asked if I passed. His answer was "4 o clock pa, diba?" (it was only around 15:45 at the time). This is one of the subjects, that I was expecting to get a low grade, because I only passed half of the requirements during the first half. Our other professor wanted us to pass 20 legal cases with a synopsis for each! Ten for Intellectual Property, five for Libel, and another five for Freedom of Speech, and its cognate rights. I was only able to pass the cases. Another reason for feeling that I would probably get a low (below 2.0) grade, is that our final presentation (group work) wasn’t really that much! We had a lot of problems with it. I sat in front of the professor, and was waiting nervously while he was giving the other cards. I was waiting very anxiously for my name to be called, and when he did, I reached to get my card nervously….. and to my surprise, I got another 3.0!!! Woot!
I almost forgot to mention, the highest grade is 4.0, and it has an increment of .50 for each grade (1.0, 1.5, 2.5, and so on). Lowest (passing) grade is 1.0.
While waiting for the other grades earlier, I was thinking of getting a drink somewhere at Greenbelt, for two reasons.
1. To distress myself if I failed any subject.
2. To celebrate, if I passed all (which I did!!!).
Neither happened, but a lot more did!
I got an Oatmeal Cookie and a Fruit Magic Shake (yes, from that store). After eating my snack, I headed to David’s Salon for a haircut, then went to The Spa (Greenbelt branch), to schedule a massage, however, the time that I wanted was fully booked, so I went to Powerbooks, to browse art books and get more ideas on what to do in future projects. After looking at 3 thick books (one was more or less than 3.5 inches thick!). I was supposed to buy groceries in Rustan’s, but they didn’t have what I wanted, so I asked them to call their other branch in Glorietta to ask. Fortunately, the other branch has it, but then, for some reason, my rear ended up at Bon Appetit Patisserie and Café! They had a buffet, which was pretty good, except for the cold and hard tempura! I usually go in to an "epicure mode" when I’m in that area, so that’s why I become very picky with my food, and where I go to eat. But I was generally quite satisfied with my meal at that place. After pigging out, I went back to Greenbelt to watch a movie. I watched A Perfect Stranger, starring Halle Berry and Bruce Willis. It won’t seem like a "omg, that’s an extremely fascinating movie" while watching it, but you might change your mind once you reach the last few minutes of the movie. After watching it, I got tempted to eat dessert, or have something to drink (non-alcoholic), but rememberred that I already ate a lot earlier at the buffet, so I skipped it and just waited for my ride home!
It’s been a great day. So, can you now suggest what title I should put? Let me know, if you do!
