Lifespan Update: Less Than A Week

May 22nd, 2007 by pbrg

I would just like to take this opportunity/chance to put a new entry in my blog. I know, the last one didn’t make much sense.

I’ve had too much time in my hands lately, which is slowly diminishing, so I’ve decided to "rediscover" my mp3 collection (21.67GB++ / 23,365,529,600 bytes — that’s just the ones I have in my hard drive). To view them, click this link. If that doesn’t work, copy/paste this address to your web browser: http://www.friendster.com/review.php?action=all&uid=1824862

Also, I went extremely out of my way on the 21st of May, when I had a lunch buffet at Greenbelt. I declared it as a cheat day and ate every meal that was in the buffet table, and was pretty happy with it.

After filling my stomach, I headed to the supermarket to buy my food supply for a week. I guess I can consider that as my exercise. When I arrived home, just before I took a bath, I cleaned my room, by mopping the floor. I’m not a messy person, and I think that would’ve done it.

A few days ago, I mopped my floor with Dial handsoap, then mopped it again with clean water, but my (wooden) floor looked faded, so I mopped it again with clean water, but it didn’t change anything. I guess mopping it with Dial made it fade.

Oh, and my favorite show’s over (for this season), according to TV.com. They sure do know how to put such a teaser in each ending! I hate it when they do that, but I absolutely love watching every single episode of it!

That’s about it for now. Tot ziens!

April 21st, 2007 by pbrg

Okay, I know the title of this post should be improvemed, so give me your suggestion(s) after reading this post. People who know me would probably think I wouldn’t use a title like this. Anyway, here it goes…. Get something to munch while reading it, because it’s quite exciting. For me, at least.

This happened last Friday, April 20th, 2007.

I got my course cards (grades) for the term, and was extremely surprised that I passed all of them! I wasn’t expecting to get those grades, especially in two of my subjects (History of Arts and Design 1 & Professional Ethics 1). I wasn’t expecting the grade I got in the first mentioned subject, becuase our professor makes us draw a lot of historic architectural structures, such as the Sphinx, Parthenon, Ziggurat, Colosseum, just to name a few. They were very challenging, and I wasn’t able to finish a few, and that’s why I got so shocked when I saw my grade. It’s not as high as you’re thinking, but it’s pretty high for me! The grade I got was a 3.0. My final exam probably pulled it up, because I got a 99! I forgot what a Pendentive is, so I wasn’t able to answer the question my professor gave. His question was "… How is a Pendentive formed?". And even if I knew what a pendentive was, I wouldn’t probably know how it’s formed. I guess, it’s formed by making/putting 2 arches, kinda forming an L shape, and then putting a dome on top, and fill it with cement, ’til the corner of the 2 arches are covered, and that’s it! But then again, that’s just a guess.
Anyway, I got a 99 for that final exam, which is not bad. I didn’t even study it (I usually don’t study anything on my finals, unless I really don’t know what it’s all about, then I study it). That was the first course card that I got.

The next course card that I got was for my Philippine Design History. I just got a 2.0 in that subject. I’m not really surprised, because I’m not as active in that subject, and my solo presentation needed to be improved a lot. I read the report at the last minute/hours before the actual presentation. Also, I usually fall asleep when others are reporting, and I think my professor saw me a few times. My midterm grade was only around 1 or 1.5. I’m not sure, but in any case, I’m generally happy that I passed. It (the course card for this subject) was released on the 16th of April, but I didn’t know. I thought that ALL course cards will be due on the 20th, so I had to look for it. It wasn’t that difficult, since the course cards for that subject was already separated. I saw my surname on the first flip. Talk about luck!

I was thinking of getting this course card after getting another one (I was at the 4th floor, and the other one will be given at the 1st floor, so go figure), but my prof. was so late, and while waiting for him, I saw a friend who is also my classmate in the other subject, and he suggested to get the other course card first, and so we did. The next course card that I got was for my Principles of Design subject. I would’ve probably gotten a higher grade, if I only submitted on time. I usually submit my projects/exercisees late. The professor gave me a 2.0 for it. Still, not bad (for me).

After that, I returned to the 4th floor to get my other course card. This course card is for my Human Factors in Design subject. I still had to wait for around 20 minutes or so, since my prof. wasn’t there yet. Good thing I saw one of my female friends (but she wants to be a "skater dude", though!) and we talked for a bit, and then I decided to go inside the Multimedia Lab, because it was BLAZING hot outside (without her, but hey, I asked her to go with me!). I just wouldn’t survive in a non-airconditioned environment! She just called me when she saw our professor. This female friend was my partner in our final project: A Designer’s studio. I conceptualized, and researched, etc, and she drew it. I got a 2.5, and she got a 3.0 in it. Still, a bad grade for me.

After getting our grades, we just bummed around, because our next course cards will be distributed at 4-6. (4-5pm for me, 5-6 for her’s, not sure). While bumming around, we decided to go to Cerealicious. It was EXTREMELY HOT while walking on the way there, so I was EXPECTING to be more relaxed once we reach there. Unfortunately, I think their airconditioners were not working, because it was VERY VERY HOT AND HUMID there. It also smelled like a refrigerator that’s been idle for a year or so. In other words, it stinks inside that place. I ordered a Mango something smoothie, but I was totally dismayed when I tasted it. I still have one more gripe, which is HYGIENE/CLEANLINESS! But,anyway, I don’t want to focus on this, because it would totally render the title of this post useless.

After bumming around with my friend, we returned to school, and I showed her some landmarks around the area, since she’s not that familiar around our campus. We left that dreadful place at around 15:30, and arrived in school 15 minutes after. We went our separate ways when we reached school, and I immediately went to the room where my next course card will be distributed. That subject is Design Professions and Code of Ethics 1. I saw the professor I had for the 2nd half of that subject, and asked if I passed. His answer was "4 o clock pa, diba?" (it was only around 15:45 at the time). This is one of the subjects, that I was expecting to get a low grade, because I only passed half of the requirements during the first half. Our other professor wanted us to pass 20 legal cases with a synopsis for each! Ten for Intellectual Property, five for Libel, and another five for Freedom of Speech, and its cognate rights. I was only able to pass the cases. Another reason for feeling that I would probably get a low (below 2.0) grade, is that our final presentation (group work) wasn’t really that much! We had a lot of problems with it. I sat in front of the professor, and was waiting nervously while he was giving the other cards. I was waiting very anxiously for my name to be called, and when he did, I reached to get my card nervously….. and to my surprise, I got another 3.0!!! Woot!

I almost forgot to mention, the highest grade is 4.0, and it has an increment of .50 for each grade (1.0, 1.5, 2.5, and so on). Lowest (passing) grade is 1.0.

While waiting for the other grades earlier, I was thinking of getting a drink somewhere at Greenbelt, for two reasons.
1. To distress myself if I failed any subject.
2. To celebrate, if I passed all (which I did!!!).

Neither happened, but a lot more did!

I got an Oatmeal Cookie and a Fruit Magic Shake (yes, from that store). After eating my snack, I headed to David’s Salon for a haircut, then went to The Spa (Greenbelt branch), to schedule a massage, however, the time that I wanted was fully booked, so I went to Powerbooks, to browse art books and get more ideas on what to do in future projects. After looking at 3 thick books (one was more or less than 3.5 inches thick!). I was supposed to buy groceries in Rustan’s, but they didn’t have what I wanted, so I asked them to call their other branch in Glorietta to ask. Fortunately, the other branch has it, but then, for some reason, my rear ended up at Bon Appetit Patisserie and Café! They had a buffet, which was pretty good, except for the cold and hard tempura! I usually go in to an "epicure mode" when I’m in that area, so that’s why I become very picky with my food, and where I go to eat. But I was generally quite satisfied with my meal at that place. After pigging out, I went back to Greenbelt to watch a movie. I watched A Perfect Stranger, starring Halle Berry and Bruce Willis. It won’t seem like a "omg, that’s an extremely fascinating movie" while watching it, but you might change your mind once you reach the last few minutes of the movie. After watching it, I got tempted to eat dessert, or have something to drink (non-alcoholic), but rememberred that I already ate a lot earlier at the buffet, so I skipped it and just waited for my ride home!

It’s been a great day. So, can you now suggest what title I should put? Let me know, if you do!

Happily Depressed

February 7th, 2007 by pbrg

Contrasting/contradicting words in a title makes something interesting (for me, at least). This is how I’m currently feeling.

The former, is because I got a replacement for my damaged pants, and the latter is because I was once again lured in to purchasing yet another piece of clothing article from the same botique, just to match the replaced item.

I guess my plan to get a laptop will be postponed for next year. :-(
(unless I get a generous donor/sponsor for one)

Due to the excessive amount of what I’m feeling, I forgot to mention that the pair of pants I bought is damaged!

The saleslady packed the clothes I bought at a blink of an eye! I was getting cash from my wallet, and all of a sudden, they were already packed. I didn’t even have a chance to double check them.

Plus, another thing that annoyed me was their receipt. It’s not detailed.
They just wrote "3 items" and the TOTAL price.
No break down/itemized details.

The Power of Depression, a Dash of Frustration and Fury, and Pure Stupidity!

February 6th, 2007 by pbrg

I don’t know where to start. This past few (around 3) weeks has been very depressing.
First, my dog died (2 weeks ago). He’s a Chihuahua (if you look at the my photo album, he’s the father. WTF?! Did I just say father? Yes. You’ll only know if you look at my photo gallery). I resorted to some shopping (bought a motherboard and new video card) the next week, to vent my depression.

A few days after shopping for those items, I found out that my OTHER dog died, also a Chihuaha (the mum; look at my photo gallery if you want to relate). I actually found out about that today, from a helper. He said that she died the other night. So, after my meeting in Glorietta, I resorted to extremely impromptu shopping! I bought a shirt, pants, and belt from Linea Uomoi was about to buy 3 shirts (one will be a gift, 2 for myself), but they didn’t have the sizes that I want, so I ended up with 1. I tried to fit 3 pair of jeans, and only liked 2, but the other one didn’t have my size, so it got scrapped off from my (imaginary)list. The belt was too loose, so I had it cut, but now it doesn’t look quite right after it was cut! But I suppose it adds up to being eccentric, OR SOMETHING.

I just arrived home a few hours ago, and vanity just struck and urged me to fit the stuff I bought earlier today. When I was about to fit the shirt I bought, I suddenly saw the security tag that they attach (to keep thieves sinning). The lady forgot to remove it! At first, I thought it was okay, but IT DOESN’T END THERE! I got a smaller size, from what I’ve ordered! It fitted me, though, but THAT’S NOT THE SIZE I WANT! (because my nipples are kind of being emphasized). I was supposed to get the NEXT BIGGER size (Large. I got medium).

Same thing happened with the pair of pants, although they’ve removed the security tag, the size was, again, an issue! I got a 48 (I asked for 2 numbers lower). Before you think of it, my WAIST LINE IS NOT 48"! I don’t know what this number measures, but that’s what it says on the tag: "Size 48".

The only thing they got right was the belt, although I couldn’t say that I’m a hundred percent happy with it.

I will go back to that store again today and ask for a replacement and compensation. If they don’t grant the latter, a refund. I will just purchase it from another branch closer to home.

I know, I should really discipline myself with my money. I’ve been contemplating on depositing it to my bank account when I had it (still have a few bucks left, but it’s not even half of what I originally had. I’m saving for a laptop), but just couldn’t squeeze it in to my schedule, and I was thinking of opening account in another bank that would meet my requirements.

Miscommunication, Healthy Diet, etc.

January 13th, 2007 by pbrg

I don’t know where to start! It’s been like crazy for the past few weeks, starting December. Got lots of meetings with clients (good), etc. (whatever). I’ve just started experiencing minor chest pains randomly, so I asked my dad to diagnose me.

He couldn’t exactly pinpoint what’s wrong, so he told me to get an Electrocardiogram (ECG) the next day. So, as an obedient(?) son, I naturally did. To be honest, I was kind of scared to know the results, but it wasn’t too serious, I GUESS!

After my ECG, my uncle analyzed the readings and told me that the current to my heart is blocked. Whatever that means! I headed to their newly renovated home after, to waste away(quality time?) some time with my cousin. We did the usual stuff that we normally do when I’m there: Me, trying to fix/analyze what’s wrong with/tweak his PC while he’s doing something else (usually texting/listening to music/babbling about something I don’t understand and which I’m not paying attention to, at times (heheh!)).

I went home early, because we both had to wake up very early. I had to be up at 5AM, and he had to wake up at around 4AM. I slept at around midnight, and woke up at around 4 or 5AM, excited/nervous/anxious to attend my first class this term (Design Principles/DESPRIN). The original sched. was to leave at 7AM sharp, but my dad suggested to leave at half past 7. His logic behind that is, everyone leaves at 7AM to go to work/whatever (even on a Saturday?!). I was, like, okay, whatever, as long as I don’t get late! I hate being late (and sometimes embarrassed/scolded/(taught?) by the professor!)

So, I left at 7:45AM or so (but I was already prepared to leave WAAAAY before that time; finished being vain at around 6:50AM). The chauffeur said that he doesn’t remember the way to school, and I was like, I don’t, either (I used to stay in a dormitory near school, and just had to walk to school; I hardly ever go home. It’s been like that for almost 2 years now)! That (duration of how long I’ll stay in a dormitory/boarding house) was about to extend, BUT the !@#$@!$ a$$ employees of that place was not able to relay my interest to their manager, and the latter had spoken to someone else that he agreed on, despite the fact that I was the FIRST one to inquire and talk to their $#@%#$@%#&$^% employees! The employees and I already had an agreement, and I was about to move that day. Good thing I confirmed via the phone, and found out the whole deal. With that said, my room is now so crowded with unpacked stuff and huge luggages!

It’s the first week of my first term in my new major, and almost all my professors are pretty cool. The coolest, so far, is my prof. in NASTCA1 (I’m too tired and lazy to get my flowchart now to check what it means!). I think he’s pretty liberal, which is cool.

The 2nd best prof. so far is the one who teaches DESPRIN. He was late for almost an hour, but that’s fine (to me, otherwise to most). I sense that he’s quite strict, but can also be lax, if you’re in good terms with him. This is a Saturday class; from 9AM to 12PM.

After that class, I went to a mall to look for a book, bought some art supplies (pencils, sketch pad, technical pens, coloring pencils, etc) and headed home. After a few hours, I talked to my friend about what we’ll do next week when we go out. After that, I headed back to the bat cave (my room) and continued fixing the laptop. It’s extremely slow, I even fell asleep while waiting for it to do whatever I was trying to do!

I heard a few knocks and woke up, it was the helper. My was calling me because I told him earlier that I want to buy fruits and vegetables, so he gave me some cash and told the driver to bring me to the grocery.

While buying vegetables, I got confused on which one to get: Lettuce or Cabbages. I couldn’t figure it out, so I just got both! I exceeded my budget, but that’s fine. Not much of a big deal.

I had enough courage to experiment around with the vegetables that I bought, and since this is already so long and probably boring you, allow me to end here for now and continue it later. Hey, it’s 5:18AM here and I’ve been up for almost 24 hours!

Crazy Day

December 16th, 2006 by pbrg

Today was a very busy day for me. It started with a breakfast meeting with my friend/boss. We ate at a buffet breakfast at RCBC. I got a cab, and picked her up.

The time was around 6:15 A.M., and I got a cab from EMP (with the plate number: TWR 438). I told the guy that we’re going to pick up someone before going to the actual place (RCBC tower in Makati City), like I normally do whenever I pick her up with a cab.

I directed him to her place, and to my surprise, he already complained even if we haven’t even stopped in front of her apartment yet!! He complain was "ang tagal naman!" or it’s taking so long!I was totally annoyed, because we were yet to stop. He said that when we were a few steps away from the parking lot of her apartment.

I said, we what’s wrong; we haven’t even stopped yet, and you’re already complaining! He became quiet for a few(say, 10, max!) seconds and continued complaining. He wanted me to go down and pay the fare, because it was taking too long (NOTE: still within like a minute or two). I tried to ignore him, but he just kept on complaining. I finally got fed up and threatened him that I will report the incident to the company, and he just sort of smiled/giggled, probably thinking that I was just bluffing. Actually, I was at the time, just to shut him up, but apparently, that didn’t work! With that said, he kept on complaining and wanted me to go down "his" cab. He asked for an additional fee (or tip; for the "long wait", 2nd minute or so, but still within 5), which wasn’t that much of a deal, and I refused to because I think it’s not that long yet, and he definitely does not deserve such amount (yes, even if it’s that small)!

While we were waiting, I noticed that the cab driver kept on looking at me via the rear mirror. I was getting an idea that he was sort of profiling me, or assessing my character, based from my appearance. Some say that I look innocent, naive, generous, smart, passive, etc.. I may tend to give off that look (and that’s why I’m also trying to change my look to a "scruffy" one), I guess. Anyway, I think he thought I’m really that passive and gullible enough to fool. I may be passive, but not gullible (or not that much at least, heh).

My friend (finally) arrived within 3-5 minutes. For some reason, the driver decided to shut up.

To save your, and my time, this post will be truncated, and will now skip to the later part of the day/evening.

At around 16:40(4:40P.M.), I went out to meet a client at a nearby fastfood chain. Our meeting just lasted for like 5-10 minutes, and after that, I went to Glorietta (Park Square, and Greenbelt 3) to canvass for a wireless (with wired support) router. After doing that, I grabbed a vegetable grilled sandwich and tea (cold) for dinner, and a small Super Shake from Ice Cold Rock Ice Creamery. I finished my order a few minutes after, and was ready to go back to my dorm.

Greenbelt, being one of the most high-end establishments in the Metro, offers a superb customer service. They feature a transportation service, as one of their amenities. I tried to avail of the service, but on my way inside the mall, I noticed two unusual things. First, was a guy sitting on the stairway (going down) near Music One and Max Brenner there were a few security guards surrounding him, so I curiously watched for a few seconds ’til the guards dragged(LITERALLY!) him down the stairs, I’ve had enough, so I walked myself in the mall to go to the concierge.  But prior to entering the mall, I saw yet ANOTHER odd thing. There was a woman (full grown, maybe in her late 30’s - early 40’s) sitting on the pebbles, in front of Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and Häagen-Dazs, she was surrounded by security guards, too. I heard her shout, but I was in a rush to the concierge, hoping that they’d still be open so, I didn’t stop to watch. Fortunately, they were still open, but, there was no available taxi at the moment, so I just hailed a cab myself.

On my way out (same route), they (the woman and guards) were already near the loading/unloading and parking entrance area of Greenbelt 3. It was quite a show, really! There were bystanders who were watching, which blocked my view, but I could still hear the woman scream and shout while the guards were trying to put her in a vehicle (Tamaraw FX). One of the security guards passed by me (they’ve already put the woman in the vehicle) and I overheard him. He said that she hit him! Not long after all that, I finally got a cab, and just told the driver about the woman in front of us.

Wow, I could not believe that actually happened, especially in that area! I’d understand if it happened in another mall, but in that place? OH MY GAWD! That was something. I smell something fishy. It could be employees of a rival mall, or former employees of the establishment who are trying to get back at them (stock/shareholders, etc). It was pretty funny, yet scary. I thought that, THAT area was the safest place to be (that’s why I’m almost always there!), but I guess that incident changed it all (okay, not everything, but you know) for me.

Unprotected & Unplanned!

December 8th, 2006 by pbrg

Thank God I don’t have an accountant (there’s not much to account/finance anyway)! I would’ve been been totally fried by now, if I did. That’s because I went way over my budget today (because of a lousy, cheap buffet!).

My initial plan was just to eat at a buffet in a pretty well-known restaurant in the Metro. That materialized (and so much more happened after), but I wasn’t satisfied enough/at all(!), so I booked an appointment for a full body massage treatment at The Spa before getting a haircut. The receptionist at The Spa told me to come back after an hour or so. I thought that would be just right, since I’m going to get a haircut anyway. However, the service that I availed for before my full body massage was so quick! I think it didn’t even last for more than 45 minutes (wasn’t good this time, but it usually is)!

While waiting at The Spa’s "lobby", I was trying to look for something interesting to read, but there weren’t any, except for some magazines about Golf. I was looking for something more techy to read, like a magazine about computer software and hardware, technology, and the likes. They didn’t even have a newspaper in the "lobby". I guess that’s one way for them to make their customers relaxed — by NOT updating them about what’s going on locally.

I almost forgot to mention that they’ve moved, since the last time I availed of their service. They now have 2 floors, but I think it’s too cramped up! I felt like I was being squished (compared to their old place).

My massage was good, as expected. However, I wasn’t ready to go home yet, so I ate dinner at Café Breton (in Greenbelt 3). My order was terrific, which made my night, but I was enjoying it too much, so I still didn’t go home. After my delightful dinner, I had dessert at Cold Rock Ice Creamery and Fuzion Smoothie Cafe. I still didn’t want to go home after, but I had no choice, because I was getting a bit bored anyway.

While on my way home, I suddenly thought "This is the consequence (overspending) of not putting it (my money) in the bank!", hence the first word of the title. The second would’ve probably been obvious if you just read through what I’ve written above. :-)

AudioLust

November 27th, 2006 by pbrg

It’s been a day now since I bought my new toy (see previous post to know what it is, or click here), and I am absolutely loving it! It’s like having mini speakers when on full volume (even if it’s not). I’ve been playing music for roughly around 24 hours. This was really a great buy, and I have no complaints about it. Well, maybe I do, but it’s okay.
