Despise Progression

Wednesday, June 8th, 2005

For those who are interested in Cara Celine, and if you’re planning to
subscribe to broadband Internet/cable TV, I suggest that you
ditch it!

Cara Celine has its own Internet service, provided by PLDT, which is
administered by phil-ads.com. The bad thing here is that almost ALL
ports are closed/blocked. I even had to request for the AIM (AOL
Instant Messenger, which is a necessity to some people), Yahoo!
Messenger audio/video conference ports to be opened! The NetMeeting,
and MSN Messenger audio/video ports are not opened, and I’m still
requesting for them to open it (so that I can communicate with my
friends and family abroad). If you want a port to be opened, say the,
MSN Messenger audio/video port you would have to know the port number.
That means, you have to research it on your own. Shouldn’t they know
that? No ports should’ve been blocked in the first place, since we pay them in full for the service.

During inquiry, I was told that EACH room has its own
768kbps connection from PLDT (I even tried to verify with the admin.
about this, more than once), and that if I’m not satisfied, I can go
with a different provider without any hassle(s), but when I signed in
with them, I was told that the connection IS SHARED! They only
have TWO (at the time of writing) 768kbps connections. PLUS, the admin
also set up the server to automatically "refresh"/restart the
connection from time to time, to eliminate "static" connections. That
means, that if you’re downloading, say, a gig, then it’d be cut once
the server has reset/"refreshed" the connection.

No problem, if you’re downloading, and the server (that you’re
downloading from) can resume. But what if you’re uploading (to a site,
say Yahoo! Photos)? It is extremely aggravating to select the files
that you want to upload repeatedly, once the connection has been
refreshed/reset. If I’m not mistaken, the connection resets/refreshes
within every hour, or so. To be more accurate, here’s a sample log file
from one of the programs that I use:

I’ve already expressed my interest in getting a separate service, and
was allowed, BUT I’d still have to pay monthly to the building, for
"maintenance fee". This is a
biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig pile of dung. So, if I get
a provider that has a monthly charge of Php. 2000 a month, I’d also pay
Cara Celine the same amount. They couldn’t explain, when I asked why. I
asked: why should I still pay you, when the cables will come from the
OTHER broadband provider?

Regarding the CABLE TV service:
On their brochure, it says that they’re cable tv ready, HOWEVER, you
CANNOT subscribe to any, for some bullcrap reason. They should’ve
excluded that from the features of this building, if the service is
useless anyway.
