Relieved!

Friday, October 21st, 2005

Remember my blog entry about the brochure midterm project in NATSC13? Yes, that’s correct, it was due a long time ago. So, why the Title for this post, you ask?

I saw my classmate (for that subject only), who was supposed to be my partner for that project. Good thing I trusted my instinct and dumped her. She just passed her brochure yesterday (Friday - 10-22-2005)! Good thing I didn’t rely on her while I was making the project. :-)

Gmail in the U.K.

We all know what Gmail is. If not, then you’re missing a lot! In a nutshell, it’s Google’s superb email service (free). My online friend in UK sent me this article

It’s about changing the @gmail.com suffix of gmail users in the U.K. because of legal trademark disputes. A company in U.K., that’s also named, yes, you guessed it right - Gmail is filing a legal action against Google for using the Gmail name for Google’s email service. Sounds confusing? Just read the article, it’ll enlighten you more. Current Google Mail users, and future users in the U.K. will now have an @googlemail.com email address.

My opinion: Google should’ve probably used their search engine if there’d be a similar company to their email service. If they did, then I guess it wasn’t enough "googling". I recently opened a new Gmail account, and got an @googlemail.com email address, even if I’m not based in the U.K.

Academic Life Progress

It’s our midterm exams week ’til next week, and I’ve already passed one of ‘em! Woohoo! The grade I got isn’t something to celebrate about, but at least I passed, WITHOUT reviewing (too much). If you’re wondering what subject that is, it’s my programming subject. We had a computerized exam that was based on Excel. One of the faculty of our university made it. I found some bugs on the exam, and one major bug is that answers can no longer be edited once the worksheet is closed, but any unanswered questions can still be filled up. That happened yesterday, Thursday - 10-20-2005. Prior to that, I also passed my quiz in Natural Science. I aced it (the quiz)!

This coming Monday (10-24-2005) will be an extremely long day for me, because our midterm exam in Natural Science is scheduled on that day, and we will also have a long quiz in Management Calculus, and another quiz in Principles in Accounting! That’s what I’m worried about. Our midterm exam in Management Calculus is scheduled on 10-28-2005, Friday. My problem in Management Calculus, is that I don’t get to practice it much, even if I understand it. Nothing wrong with the professor; he’s great!

Napoleon Dynamite

I watched this movie last night (I downloaded it). At first, it seemed a little odd, but as the movie played I learnt to appreciate it better. If I were to write a review about it, I’d probably make one that’s similar to the review written in the link.

Movie Day

Friday, October 14th, 2005

Last Sunday (10-09-2005/MM/DD/YYYY), I watched The 40 Year Old Virgin at Greenbelt 3. I made a horrible decision. Honestly, not just "a". I made horrible decisions that day. The first one was that, I shouldn’t have took the 16:05 showtime schedule. Why? Because I left here (I currently reside in Malate, Manila) at around 15:30. I took a cab, and the trip’s duration was around 10-15 minutes. I arrived there at around 15:50, so I figured I still had enough time to buy some food and personal hygiene stuff.

So, on my way to the cinema, I bought my deodorant and a small bottle of Dial hand sanitizer. I finished at around 16:00. Five minutes left before the movie. After that, my feet guided me to the ticket booth. I asked the ticket lady if the movie’s already starting. She said it was, but I figured that it’d probably start late, like most of the time, and would probably be prefixed by advertisments. With that said, I still bought the 16:05 showtime ticket, and decided to get something to munch while watching the movie. I first went to Dome, and bought a Tuna sandwich, then I went to Chimara to buy a large Green Tea drink.

I totally forgot to get my Tuna sandwich from Dome! I just remembered it after 15 minutes, or so. I was actually waiting for it to be delivered, and wondering what’s taking them so long to deliver it. Then I remembered saying I’ll just go back and pick it up after buying something to drink.

You’re probably laughing at me right now. I know. I usually do that when I do something stupid, but I was too tired and annoyed to do it that day.

Nothing special in the movie. I was able to predict some scenes of it, without having an idea about it before watching it. One particular scene that I was able to guess was the bike accident at the last part. I won’t spill it out here, I’ll leave that for you to watch.

I guess that’s about it, for now. Tot ziens.

Interrupted

Friday, October 14th, 2005

I”ve [how wonderful to start my post with. Yes, I know I'm a bit narcissistic! ;-)] recently got my hands on Land of The Dead (DVD rip), and was watching it for the 2nd time tonight (I was multitasking last night while watching it, so it didn’t really get my full attention) to, hopefully, comprehend the movie and appreciate it more extensively. Alas! One of my room mates arrived, and out of HIS curiousity, had the guts to tap me NOT ONCE, but I think THRICE! The first was quite okay, though, I was still interrupted. He asked the title of the flick I’m watching. I answered with a not-interested-to-talk-with-you kind of tone. I think he didn’t get it. Then, he tapped me again to offer me some food. It was generous of him to do that, but it was also kind enough to disturb me, if you know what I mean. That’s not all, just after the climax, I think, of the movie he bugged me again! I just gave him the hand and carried on watching the movie. ;-)

Yes, so he interrupted me three times.

How I hate being held back from what I’m doing. Oh well. I know that not everyone’s that civilized [like me, hey I try to be :-P].

What’s With This Place?!

They call it "Dormtel", or "the first hotel-type dorm in the philippines" (yes, that’s small p on the card. How professional.)
Dormpwet

(notice the small p under m, if you can)

This entry is about another power loss/interruption that occured approximately 1 hour and 7 minutes (at the time of writing) ago. While it was not too long (the duration of the power loss/interruption), the bad thing is that my workstation was still turned off improperly! Oh well. So much for a "Dormtel". I’d call the front desk and report what just happened, but I already know what they’ll say. It’s useless. I’d talk to their manager, but she’s a stupid ass hypocrite (that’s what I’ve heard from other tenants).

The mishap mentioned above (workstation was turned off improperly) is just one reason. It makes up 80% of the reason I’m annoyed, though. The other 20% is because I was downloading a lot of files from Bittorrent. It takes me for-f*cking-ever just to connect to a tracker. Downloading/finishing the files that are being downloaded would take another century. We have three 768Kbps connections here, but I don’t even feel it. I mean, when I was with my former provider, I only had a 256-sometimes-384-to-512Kbps connection, and whenever I download a movie (usually 700-900MB), it would already be finished in a couple of hours (usually 5-7). On my Current connection, it would usually take at least 3-10 days, sometimes even more!

I actually don’t know why I said that. Probably because my brain is still asleep. A friend of mine called me on my mobile phone at around 8:00AM, and that woke me up. Oh well. Even if my brain is still asleep, I am sure that I abhor my connection, because I don’t need to think that I do, I just feel it. It is an instinct.
