AudioLust

Monday, November 27th, 2006

It’s been a day now since I bought my new toy (see previous post to know what it is, or click here), and I am absolutely loving it! It’s like having mini speakers when on full volume (even if it’s not). I’ve been playing music for roughly around 24 hours. This was really a great buy, and I have no complaints about it. Well, maybe I do, but it’s okay.

Great Day!

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

Today was such a blast! I got a discount on the cab that drove me to Glorietta. The driver didn’t have change for my money, that’s why he just gave me a discount. Sweet!

Second of all, I bought my new toy, an Altec Lansing AHS515 headset at a big (not literally, I just mean they have many branches nationwide) electronics store at a discounted price. I was willing to pay for the full price, but just tried my luck and asked if I can get it at that price. Luckily, I was able to bargain for it, and they were generous enough to agree! It’s a good thing (of course!) that they agreed. I would’ve felt extremely (okay, not so, but still) guilty for not canvassing in the entire area. After buying it from that store, I went to another, and saw it at a price cheaper than their tag price (which is equivalent to the one I bargained for). I was wondering, what if I just bought there? Maybe I would’ve gotten it at a cheaper price (provided I ask). Oh well, that’s my mistake. I shouldn’t have looked at another store AFTER buying it. I am giving my new toy a test drive while writing this post.

Lastly, I ate at a buffet. The restaurant is called Una Mas. Made a great choice. If Bree Van De Kamp would’ve tasted their food, she would’ve said "Scrumptious!" and probably discuss how tasty the food was, and all. I tried everything that’s in the buffet, except for the rice. Haven’t eaten rice in a long time. I’m trying to avoid it. And besides, it wouldn’t be a good idea to eat something that would make you feel bloated, especially in a buffet! I almost forgot to mention that they also have complimentary Oysters, which tasted absolutely delightful (and my stomach didn’t feel sick this time! I usually don’t like Oysters because of that)!

I guess all the spending I did today could be considered as a post-gift to myself, since I did absolutely nothing when I aged a year older (just a few days ago). All in all, it was a great day for me. :-)

Yahoo! Messenger Security/Virii Outbreak! (LENGTHY AND MAY CONTAIN BORING SEMI-TECHNICAL STUFF)

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

I’ve been receiving a lot of instant messages (IM’s) for the past few days with URL/websites that contain malicious code to activate a worm (or something similar, but I think it’s probably a worm) in your computer. PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT ONCE YOU CLICK THAT URL/WEBSITE (in the message), IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY RESEND ITSELF TO ALL YOUR CONTACTS (IN Yahoo! Messenger. That’s what a worm does anyway).

TIPS:

DO NOT CLICK ON ANY URL/website unless youo’re conversing with that person IN REAL TIME!

DO NOT CLICK URL’s/websites in OFFLINE MESSAGES, even if the site looks reputable/decent. (See examples below)

To make it seem like it’s an authentic message from your friend(s), MOST of those URL’s/websites are contained in a message with something like (not a complete list):

"have you seen… [website]?"
"do you know who’s [website]?"
"oh my god! who is this… [website]?"
"DO NOT CLICK… [website]!"
"i told you not to click… [website]!"
"check out my new site… [website]"
"here’s my new site… [website]"
"new pics… [website]"
"oh my god, i won… [website]"
"screenshot of new windows version… [website]"
";) 1 of my vacation pictures… [website]"
"wtf is this ? wanna give me a shit ?  [website]"
"damn, she is so cute :x… [website]"
"have you ever seen such a silly man like this ?… [website]"
"do you realize who is in this image:… [website]"
":( the page cannot be displayed… [website]"
"shot in Iraq _ The war will never end… [website]"
"check this link for me : … [website]"
"making money online never be easier : … [website]"
"look at my new lover : … [website]"

ALWAYS RUN AND UPDATE YOUR ANTIVIRUS OR ANY SECURITY SOFTWARE THAT YOU ARE USING!
Install and use (in the background, recommended) anti-spyware software.

From someone in my list

(Removed my contact’s details;
I replaced the display picture):
Ymvirii

(Click image to enlarge. The Yahoo! Messenger
client I am using might look different)

If the creator of that worm is smart enough, I’d think that he’d block messages from friends trying to contact the infected user, informing him/her that his/her PC is infected, or maybe even make a stand-alone program that’ll connect to the Yahoo! Messenger server and send the message to the infected user’s contact list. If not, well, then maybe that’s a new idea/challenge for the author! =P

Here’s a list of examples of sites that probably contain malicious code. These sites might seem to be funny looking, or may look blank, but there are probably hidden scripts in it that can activate the unwanted program. (I couldn’t verify, since I didn’t click these links. Too scared to. I think it’s pretty obvious, though.  Not hyperlinked for obvious reasons!):

A Sign of Narcissism?

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

Have you noticed how my blog usually starts (check the latest posts)? It usually starts with "I…",  or "My…" or something similar. Is this a subtle sign of narcissism, or vanity?

I’d love to hear from you! :-)

Turn Off Unresponsive Script in Firefox (tweak)

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

Another great old tweak from lifehacker.

I can’t really remember when I’ve started to encounter this problem, but I have a hint that it started when I updated my version of Firefox to 1.5.x (just like in my reference site).

It looks like this :

Script_2

 Quick Fix:

Type about:config in Firefox’s address bar.

Copy/paste dom.max_script_run_time in your Filter textbox field..

Change the value to something higher than the default (which is 5.).

Change the default setting to something higher. Mine’s set to to 20 (like on the site).

Complete tweak here.

Cheat Day! (Not The Best Title, But It Fits..)

Friday, November 10th, 2006

I’ve been trying to lose weight lately, by eating what I think is healthy (I usually eat instant oatmeal, and tuna (canned) sandwich on wheat bread, and some chips occasionally), but today is an exception!

I ordered a lot of fast food from McDonald’s earlier this morning.

My order consisted of the following:
1 McRice Burger (beef)
1 Filet-o-fish (No tartar sauce!)
1 Apple Pie
1 Large Fries
1 Large Pink Lemonade

I know it’s a lot, but what good is a cheat day if you won’t maximize it!? I’m still craving for Tempura!

I would GREATLY appreciate it if you could suggest any easy-to-prepare, or instant food that’s healthy. I live in a dorm, and don’t have a refrigerator and stove, so cooking and storing food is out of the question.

Firefox Memory Leak Tweak (AND MORE!)

Friday, November 10th, 2006

I haven’t posted anything new lately, and this may not be what an average computer user would want to read, but I think that’s it’s an important post, since it can fix the Memory leak bug in Firefox (all versions!).

I’ve been a Firefox user for a very long time, and have done most of the tweaks out there prior to the release of that article, but this tweak really caught my attention, since I always experience this frustrating memory leak bug (probably because I usually have 10+ tabs open, and sometimes, 2-3 instances (of the browser that we’re discussing) with about the same number of tabs.

Quick fix:
Type about:config in the Address Bar.
Look for browser.cache.disk.capacity.

Modified Value:  Depends on your system’s total memory.  According to Computerworld:

For RAM sizes between 512BM and 1GB, start with 15000. For RAM sizes between 128MB and 512M, try 5000.

More tweaks here.

This tweak worked for me, and I hope it works for you, too!

Happy tweaking!
