Great Day!

November 26th, 2006 by pbrg

Today was such a blast! I got a discount on the cab that drove me to Glorietta. The driver didn’t have change for my money, that’s why he just gave me a discount. Sweet!

Second of all, I bought my new toy, an Altec Lansing AHS515 headset at a big (not literally, I just mean they have many branches nationwide) electronics store at a discounted price. I was willing to pay for the full price, but just tried my luck and asked if I can get it at that price. Luckily, I was able to bargain for it, and they were generous enough to agree! It’s a good thing (of course!) that they agreed. I would’ve felt extremely (okay, not so, but still) guilty for not canvassing in the entire area. After buying it from that store, I went to another, and saw it at a price cheaper than their tag price (which is equivalent to the one I bargained for). I was wondering, what if I just bought there? Maybe I would’ve gotten it at a cheaper price (provided I ask). Oh well, that’s my mistake. I shouldn’t have looked at another store AFTER buying it. I am giving my new toy a test drive while writing this post.

Introducing… MY NEW TOY:
Ahs515
(The jacks of mine are black)

Lastly, I ate at a buffet. The restaurant is called Una Mas. Made a great choice. If Bree Van De Kamp would’ve tasted their food, she would’ve said "Scrumptious!" and probably discuss how tasty the food was, and all. I tried everything that’s in the buffet, except for the rice. Haven’t eaten rice in a long time. I’m trying to avoid it. And besides, it wouldn’t be a good idea to eat something that would make you feel bloated, especially in a buffet! I almost forgot to mention that they also have complimentary Oysters, which tasted absolutely delightful (and my stomach didn’t feel sick this time! I usually don’t like Oysters because of that)!

I guess all the spending I did today could be considered as a post-gift to myself, since I did absolutely nothing when I aged a year older (just a few days ago). All in all, it was a great day for me. :-)

Yahoo! Messenger Security/Virii Outbreak! (LENGTHY AND MAY CONTAIN BORING SEMI-TECHNICAL STUFF)

November 18th, 2006 by pbrg

I’ve been receiving a lot of instant messages (IM’s) for the past few days with URL/websites that contain malicious code to activate a worm (or something similar, but I think it’s probably a worm) in your computer. PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT ONCE YOU CLICK THAT URL/WEBSITE (in the message), IT WILL AUTOMATICALLY RESEND ITSELF TO ALL YOUR CONTACTS (IN Yahoo! Messenger. That’s what a worm does anyway).

TIPS:

DO NOT CLICK ON ANY URL/website unless youo’re conversing with that person IN REAL TIME!

DO NOT CLICK URL’s/websites in OFFLINE MESSAGES, even if the site looks reputable/decent. (See examples below)

To make it seem like it’s an authentic message from your friend(s), MOST of those URL’s/websites are contained in a message with something like (not a complete list):

"have you seen… [website]?"
"do you know who’s [website]?"
"oh my god! who is this… [website]?"
"DO NOT CLICK… [website]!"
"i told you not to click… [website]!"
"check out my new site… [website]"
"here’s my new site… [website]"
"new pics… [website]"
"oh my god, i won… [website]"
"screenshot of new windows version… [website]"
";) 1 of my vacation pictures… [website]"
"wtf is this ? wanna give me a shit ?  [website]"
"damn, she is so cute :x… [website]"
"have you ever seen such a silly man like this ?… [website]"
"do you realize who is in this image:… [website]"
":( the page cannot be displayed… [website]"
"shot in Iraq _ The war will never end… [website]"
"check this link for me : … [website]"
"making money online never be easier : … [website]"
"look at my new lover : … [website]"

ALWAYS RUN AND UPDATE YOUR ANTIVIRUS OR ANY SECURITY SOFTWARE THAT YOU ARE USING!
Install and use (in the background, recommended) anti-spyware software.

From someone in my list

(Removed my contact’s details;
I replaced the display picture):
Ymvirii

(Click image to enlarge. The Yahoo! Messenger
client I am using might look different)

If the creator of that worm is smart enough, I’d think that he’d block messages from friends trying to contact the infected user, informing him/her that his/her PC is infected, or maybe even make a stand-alone program that’ll connect to the Yahoo! Messenger server and send the message to the infected user’s contact list. If not, well, then maybe that’s a new idea/challenge for the author! =P

Here’s a list of examples of sites that probably contain malicious code. These sites might seem to be funny looking, or may look blank, but there are probably hidden scripts in it that can activate the unwanted program. (I couldn’t verify, since I didn’t click these links. Too scared to. I think it’s pretty obvious, though.  Not hyperlinked for obvious reasons!):

A Sign of Narcissism?

November 11th, 2006 by pbrg

Have you noticed how my blog usually starts (check the latest posts)? It usually starts with "I…",  or "My…" or something similar. Is this a subtle sign of narcissism, or vanity?

I’d love to hear from you! :-)

Turn Off Unresponsive Script in Firefox (tweak)

November 11th, 2006 by pbrg

Another great old tweak from lifehacker.

I can’t really remember when I’ve started to encounter this problem, but I have a hint that it started when I updated my version of Firefox to 1.5.x (just like in my reference site).

It looks like this :

Script_2

 Quick Fix:

Type about:config in Firefox’s address bar.

Copy/paste dom.max_script_run_time in your Filter textbox field..

Change the value to something higher than the default (which is 5.).

Change the default setting to something higher. Mine’s set to to 20 (like on the site).

Complete tweak here.

Cheat Day! (Not The Best Title, But It Fits..)

November 10th, 2006 by pbrg

I’ve been trying to lose weight lately, by eating what I think is healthy (I usually eat instant oatmeal, and tuna (canned) sandwich on wheat bread, and some chips occasionally), but today is an exception!

I ordered a lot of fast food from McDonald’s earlier this morning.

My order consisted of the following:
1 McRice Burger (beef)
1 Filet-o-fish (No tartar sauce!)
1 Apple Pie
1 Large Fries
1 Large Pink Lemonade

I know it’s a lot, but what good is a cheat day if you won’t maximize it!? I’m still craving for Tempura!

I would GREATLY appreciate it if you could suggest any easy-to-prepare, or instant food that’s healthy. I live in a dorm, and don’t have a refrigerator and stove, so cooking and storing food is out of the question.

Firefox Memory Leak Tweak (AND MORE!)

November 10th, 2006 by pbrg

I haven’t posted anything new lately, and this may not be what an average computer user would want to read, but I think that’s it’s an important post, since it can fix the Memory leak bug in Firefox (all versions!).

I’ve been a Firefox user for a very long time, and have done most of the tweaks out there prior to the release of that article, but this tweak really caught my attention, since I always experience this frustrating memory leak bug (probably because I usually have 10+ tabs open, and sometimes, 2-3 instances (of the browser that we’re discussing) with about the same number of tabs.

Quick fix:
Type about:config in the Address Bar.
Look for browser.cache.disk.capacity.

Modified Value:  Depends on your system’s total memory.  According to Computerworld:

For RAM sizes between 512BM and 1GB, start with 15000. For RAM sizes between 128MB and 512M, try 5000.

More tweaks here.

This tweak worked for me, and I hope it works for you, too!

Happy tweaking!

Weight++

March 7th, 2006 by pbrg

It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted something, so here goes nothing.. I have gained at least 10 pounds in the past 2-3 weeks! It’s probably due to the acceptance of my mom to God’s invitation to his Kingdom of Paradise.

We have been invited to a lot of get togethers, and we go to most of ‘em. Also, my dad celebrated his birthday a few days ago (good thing I was a bit late; it helped me eat less than what I would’ve had if I arrived on time).

Yesterday (06-07-2006) was my best friend’s birthday, and we ate at 4 establishments (Note: We wanted to eat somewhere we haven’t tried before, ‘cept for the last 2):
The Seafood Club By Red Crab (Their hygiene IS HORRIBLE!!!! There were INSECTS IN THE PLACE, AND I FOUND ONE ON MY MAKI!!!!! OTHER THAN THAT, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS POOR. THEIR WAITERS AREN’T PROFESSIONAL ENOUGH!!!!)
Bizu (I liked their Outragous Orange drink. I kinda got scared when I pushed the flush, because the toilet shook)
The Coffee Bean (Had a pretty decent meal)
Max Brenner (Pretty decent as well)

Before going to the last 2 establishments, we watched the sickest movie that I’ve seen so far: Hostel. If you don’t believe me, watch it for yourself. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, though. If you don’t want to vommit, then don’t eat BEFORE watching it. If you want to be able to eat after, eat BEFORE the movie. It’s totally up to you.

I think the food I ate today will last for a day or two. I was so stuffed! Make that WE were so stuffed, even before going to Bizu! Good thing we did some walking before watching the movie. But I was still feeling a bit bloated while watching it. Thank God I didn’t puke!

Tot ziens.

this post is for testing purposes only. it has not been thought of, so kindly excuse everything that you read here. thanks for checking it out.

i over ate/spent again today. was craving for chinese food, and i satisfied that craving by eating at our school’s cafeteria. i ordered 1 order california maki(8 pieces) and 5 pieces of tempura. i wasn’t really satisfied with the latter, it seemed like they put too much flour on it, which made the shrimps big and difficult to eat. i olso ate a french toast, but the ham was hard to bite. a piece of cheese fell off.

i’m going to take an online quiz a little later for my marketing class.

Outrage

November 27th, 2005 by pbrg

Last Friday (11-25-2005), I received an unexpected phone call from one of my friends in school. They were asking for my help to network their computers. Unfortunately, I wasn’t available at that time, because I had to go to the school clinic and have my wound cleaned. However, I told my friends that I’ll be available later on, after my classes (18:00).

At around 15:35, I went to class, as usual. Our professor made us watch a video about the coral reefs in the Philippines (locally), and asked a couple of questions (we wrote the answers in a 1/2 sheet yellow paper). After making it, I decided to meet my classmates earlier. With that said, I sent a SMS to one of them, and told him that I’m thinking of going there early.

On my way to the university’s front gate, I saw a sale (still inside the campus), so I decided to browse the products on sale. There were nice wall clocks, "beadlets" (bracelets made of beads; not sure what it’s called), and other accessories of the like, which are made of organic materials. My attention was brought to most tempting thing to buy (in there) — FOOD! So, I browsed more, and saw a lot of interesting stuff. I ended up buying tons of sweets.
Here are the items that I bought:
1 pack of chocolate covered sticks
1 pack of chocolate covered marshmallows with rice puffs (Which I gave to my mum)
1 pack of sweet beans
1 pack of cookies with chocolate chips
2 packs of piaya (I gave one to my mum. Didn’t know what it was, but it looked interesting)
2 packs of polvoron (Gave one to grandma’)

Sounds too many? That’s just what I bought in the 3rd floor. I still bought something on the 2nd floor, near our library! I purchased 3 packs of ready to eat vegetarian pasta.

I decided to drop what I bought in my dorm, before I went to my friend’s place. After putting them on my spare bed, I went out to meet my friends.

They just needed help in networking their computers, so I thought I could finish that fast (which I did), but due to technical problems (the cable that they bought wasn’t compatible with their peer-to-peer setup), we had to go back to the store and had it fixed.

We went back to our friend’s place once again, to eat the food that we bought for dinner, then went to Starbucks in Quezon City to meet someone. We arrived at around 21:00. We were surprised to see some of our former blockmates in the place, and they all have the same purpose of visiting the place: To meet that person we’re meeting. THAT person is NOT a celebrity, politician, nor anyone rich and famous, though. Since I didn’t have anything to do, I just tagged along with them.

Their meeting with that person ended at around 03:45(A.M.), but before we went back to our friend’s place, we went to another friend’s place, because she had to get something. I also dropped by my place to get my printer, cd-label stickers, and some paper for printing.

They immediately worked on what they had to do upon arrival to our HQ, and I just bummed around, listening to my friend’s mp3’s on his iPod. Good thing, there were two iPods there, because the one that I was using had to be charged, so I switched to the other iPod, and charged the other one.

It’s already around 7:00(A.M.), and their program was still buggy, so they called the person they met at Starbucks and asked for her help. I was still listening to my friend’s mp3’s, and relaxing.

About 30 minutes before the deadline, they finally finished the program, and I had to do the finishing touch (package it), then we packed our stuff and set off. Good thing one of our friends has a car. She drove us back to our dorms.

I just set up my printer, and took a bath when I got back in my dorm, because my mum and I had to meet at the mall to do watch a movie, eat lunch, and do some shopping. It was already around 09:00(A.M.), and I was just about to start taking a bath. I finished around an hour after (including drying/dressing up). After that, I went to the university’s clinic and had my wound cleaned once again.

I arrived early at the mall, so I had some time to roam around before I met my mom and our helper. We ate at Gloria Maris. The food was pretty good, but they should definitely improve on their hygiene!

We did some shopping after eating, just before the movie started. I thought it was already 13:40, and I rushed my mom to the cinema, but I was wrong. It was an hour early, so we did some shopping (for my new dorm). After shopping, we went to the cinema.

We were seated in the perfect spot, however, the people right above/behind us were quite annoying. They seemed like a bunch of spoiled/careless teenagers. They kept on laughing/giggling (while watching a seriously frightening film!) and hitting the back of our chairs with their shoes. It was totally annoying.

I fell asleep a few times while watching the movie, because I haven’t slept prior to that. The parts that scared the hell out of me were:
When Emily was possessed, saying "one two three four five SIX!" while hopping in the barn,
and when she said "Lucifer".

After the movie, we immediately rushed to the parking lot, because we had to attend a tribute to the elders in our church. My grandma’ was included in the program. Honestly, I was totally bored while in the church. But my mum’s happy that I went there to watch my grandma’ receive a plaque.

We ate at a new pizza place after the program, then we drove mum back home, and picked up our driver to help me bring the stuff that I bought at the dorm.

A few minutes upon arrival, a friend of mine in the UK sent a message to me on MSN, so we talked for a couple of hours. Yes, I STILL haven’t slept yet at that time. I didn’t feel sleepy anymore, so I sorted out what I bought while talking to him. After our long chat, I took a bath and went to sleep.

Had an Accident, But Still Thankful!

November 21st, 2005 by pbrg

I am very grateful to the Lord for saving me on my accident earlier! I was taking a bath (at around 2AM), and was just finishing, then I slipped off the floor, cut my eyebrow, and bruised/scratched arm.

I am thankful to Him for saving my precious eye. While I was taking a bath, I was thinking of our activity yesterday afternoon in ORDEV-2.

Our professor made us draw a symbol that represents God, and a prayer that matches it. I drew 2 scenarios, and both has a couple holding hands, which represents friendship. Friends are not my God/Lord/Superior being, but they’re blessings from up above. The scenarios are: Bright day (with a rainbow), and a dark, rainy day. In my prayer, I stressed out that I am truly appreciative of my true/real friends, that He gave.
